YES or NO
Audio-reactive video Installation /
Sound
YES/NO is an interactive audio responsive video installation developed during Screen Dive residency during Gaudeamus Festival week 2022 in Utrecht together with performance artist Rotem Volk (IL) and musician Carmen Terol (ES).
By aligning human response and digital transformation, Yes/No closely engages with the seminar’s exploration
of human-machine collaboration and audience co-creation. The piece transforms participants into audience-makers,
as their answers directly influence the unfolding visuals and sounds, creating a co-creative environment.
In its phygital versions, Yes/No bridges physical and digital spaces, inviting reflection on decision-making.
It raises questions about human agency, the evolving roles of audience and machine, and the aesthetic possibilities
of technological interconnection, making it a relevant contribution to the discourse on interdisciplinary and ethical
co-creative practices.
Every question seems to be asked with a slightly different intention. Outside the space the visitors of the festival can hear only YES or NO sounding throughout the space of De Nijverheid Café -Terras without knowing what question
is being asked inside.
YES or NO examines the power of a group answering intimate questions together and the way the collective experience reflects on our individual response, creates an intimate space situated in public space. A delicate relationship is created between the audience members and the screen, between the live people and the machine, between saying Yes and No.
